EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing.
Go online and you will find a whole lot of information about EMDR Therapy, it's uses and how it works.
But if you are anything like me, all that 'academic speak' can be hard to navigate, so here is a plain language explanation that will help you understand how unprocessed events can cause problems for you and how EMDR tries to put that right.
What is EMDR?
How is it done?
As the BLS takes place and the connections are created, this allows information to flow more freely between the different areas of the brain, in ways that maybe it did not previously.
I will use something called Bi-Lateral Stimulation or 'BLS'
This will stimulate different areas of your brain to make new connections with each other.
All of this means that unprocessed issues can be brought together with information that could solve things. This often results in a more positive view of past events and better self-esteem.
The BLS can be done a number of ways. It could be via eye movement, following a moving finger.
However most of my clients tend to prefer headphones that deliver beeps to the ears or holding small pads that vibrate in the hands.
